General Summary

The Executive Director is responsible for leading economic development efforts in the Clinton Region, including strategic planning, investor and public relations, staff management, financial management, marketing and existing industry programs, and networking with local, regional and state governments and business leaders.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Organizational Leadership/Management: Coordinate CRDC activities with local ally organizations; provide technical assistance to assist efforts that advance the business, civic, and general interests of the Clinton Region; guide the EDC in the development, implementation and maintenance of a strategic plan; provide leadership to EDC committees; recruit, educate, and lead the Clinton Regional CRDC; and manage the CRDC office, including financial activities, including preparation and administration of the annual budget; formulate internal management practices; and supervise all staff activities, including hiring, training, performance review, discipline up to and including termination of staff and interns.  Director will formulate internal management practices, create and manage a positive, productive work environment among all staff members.

Investor/Public Relations: Executive Director must be a visible local contributor to the community.  Proactively communicate the CRDC’s activities and successes to the public via local media, the newsletter, personal visits, and speaking engagements to community organizations, local government, and other CRDC supporters and stakeholders; and become involved in community and professional activities and organizations to enhance the CRDC’s visibility.  Increase collaboration with the Clinton Chamber in all economic development projects.

Development/Attraction: Lead efforts to attract new businesses to the Clinton area; lead prospect site and building tours; develop, enhance and maintain relationships with federal, state, regional and local economic development allies; and develop printed materials necessary to market the Clinton Region; and serve as primary contact for administration of financial incentives and packages.  Director will be expected to utilize the talents and abilities of our Business Development Manager whenever appropriate.

Existing Industry/Business Retention & Expansion: Lead the development, implementation and management of a comprehensive existing industry program.  Director will be expected to utilize the talents and abilities of our Existing Industry Manager whenever appropriate.

Program Development: Analyze the economic needs of the Clinton Region; and identify/adapt economic development programs for use in the Clinton Region.

Professional Development: Attend professional conferences and seminars in the field of economic development; and maintain an awareness and working knowledge of all federal, state, regional and local business assistance programs.

Organizational Relationships

The Executive Director is responsible to the Clinton Regional Development Corporation Board of Directors. The Executive Director shall work closely with all CRDC Committees, through which the volunteer leadership monitors and advises staff activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, economics, public policy, or related fields

  • Previous experience in economic development, knowledgeable of local, state and regional economic development programs

  • Working knowledge of business operations, including recognized organizational skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills with the ability to build relationships at the local, state and regional level

  • Knowledgeable about the CRDC region and resident within the region (within 90 days of employment)

  • Technology literate – strong knowledge of computer software, social media and other web-based applications/tools, and productivity-enhancing electronics (smartphone, tablet, etc.)

  • Additional duties as assigned by Board of Directors
