Clinton Engineering Co. Inc., based in Clinton, Iowa, is proud to be a full-service general contractor and recognized construction leader in the Gateway area since 1926. Our diverse and experienced workforce self-performs in multiple trades including; carpentry, concrete paving, cast-in-place concrete, underground utilities, steel fabrication, steel erection and excavation.

We are always looking for General Laborers, Concrete Finishers and Machine Operators.

GENERAL LABORERS:

The GENERAL LABORER is responsible for performing duties as assigned to assure that a quality product is being provided. This is to be accomplished in a safe and productive manner.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Understanding specifications and tolerances on projects you are working on (pavement thickness, offsets, widths, steel setup, framing, setting of forms, removals, etc.)
  • Assisting in concrete setup, shoveling, raking, string-line setup, steel layout and other assigned tasks on concrete work as directed.
  • Assisting on tasks as assigned on building, steel, concrete, underground pipe, or industrial projects.
  • Ensuring preparedness by having all tools necessary to do work laid out by your supervisor.
  • Practicing good housekeeping by keeping work area and job site clean and organized.

The successful candidate will have:

  • High school diploma, or equivalent.
  • To drive company vehicles, you must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

CONCRETE FINISHERS:

The CONCRETE FINISHER is responsible for ensuring concrete pavement product quality for our customers.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • An understanding of specifications and tolerances on assigned projects (edge slump, vertical face, pavement thickness, profile requirements, offsets, widths, etc.)
  • Assisting with the initial concrete setup, and general laborer duties when needed
  • Ensuring adequate preparation and materials for the assigned task
  • Monitoring string line and/or forms to ensure it has not been bumped or moved
  • Communicating regularly with the crew to make necessary adjustments
  • An understanding of how to form and finish concrete curbwork

The successful candidate will have:

  • High school diploma, or equivalent
  • A minimum of 1-year experience and/or training in construction; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and manuals
  • Ability to perform math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division using whole numbers, common fraction and decimals
  • Ability to apply, understand, and carry out instructions provided in written, oral or diagram form
  • Ability to effectively deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Valid driver’s license.

MACHINE OPERATORS:

The MACHINE OPERATOR is responsible for operating equipment on job by controlling and guiding machines that are used in construction.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring machines are well-oiled, serviced and inspected.
  • Coordinating materials on job sites.
  • Operating tamping machines or manually rolling surfaces to compact earth fills, foundation forms, and finished road materials according to grade specifications.
  • Operating machinery such as loaders, dump trucks, skid steers, forklifts, backhoes, pavers, trimmers, etc.
  • Breaking up pavement using machines/hammers.
  • Lighting burners on machines and regulating screened temperatures.
  • Candidates are not expected to have skill in operating ALL equipment, but should be skilled in the basics of operating equipment, and have the propensity and desire to learn to operate other pieces.

The successful candidate will have:

  • High school diploma, or equivalent PLUS two years of experience and / or training in construction.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to tell time and calculate periods of time.

The location:

The geographic work location will be based in Clinton, Iowa generally working within a 25-mile radius.
